The Official POPS blog.

Saturday, December 24, 2011

It is the morning of Christmas Eve, the day before the holiest of days to Christians throughout the world.  Tomorrow, Christmas, is the day symbolizing the start of Christianity with the birth of the Christ child Jesus.
Christmas has taken on a much larger and wider meaning in the intervening years. Because of the messages it sends, Christmas should have meaning to all people throughout the world. Among the most important to keep in mind:

Treat others as you would wish to be treated

Turn the other cheek: a passive response can be far more meaningful and difficult than the actions of violence and vengeance, the road often taken.

Peace and good will to all people.

People of all races, religions and nationalities can learn and prosper from just these few basic tenets. All people everywhere have one thing in common: we must all live in the same house called Earth. We MUST learn to live together with a level of peace and respect towards each other.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a peaceful 2012.

Coming to a POPS near you.....

Coming up soon is our Customer Appreciation Day. This Saturday, December 17th 2011, we do our best to show all of our loyal customers how much we appreciate them. There are free snacks, sale prices on most stuff, and giveaway items. We only have two store-wide sales each year: our Birthday Bash in May and our Customer Appreciation Day in December. Here at POPS, we don't forget who keeps our doors open: it is all of you! And for that, we are thankful. For details, check the website calendar.

Changes to the events calendar for 2012:
Poetry At POPS will take place on the second Saturday of every month. It's a chance for poets, upcoming poets and lovers of poetry to read, listen and interact with one another. It is always low-key, and the last one we had was the most fun yet. Please keep works family friendly, but other than that, the sky's the limit. Starts at 2pm.
Open Mic for Singers/Songwriters will be held on the last Saturday of each month. Starting at 2pm, it's open to any genre as long as the works are family friendly and original (no covers, please). A chance for you to show off your hard work in a warm venue with a friendly atmosphere!

Please keep an eye on our calendar. Although we only have two store-wide sales per year, we do have lots of mini-sales, lots of live events, and we get tons of new stuff all the time.

Thanks for lending an ear!

Poetry At POPS

Today (Saturday 10/22) we will present another Poetry At POPS. Starting time is 2pm, and finish time is either 6pm or when the last poet falls, whichever is first.

The Poetry At POPS series has not really caught on the way I thought it might. Although we will continue to host the event on the second to last (penultimate) Saturday each month through the end of the year, beyond that is a big question mark. If you would like to see us continue offering poetry readings, please let us know. The best way to do that is to show up and read. Or listen. Or both.

Thanks for lending an ear.
